Day tour from Antalya to Pamukkale

Rated 5.0 out of 5
April 19, 2023

3.5 hours travel each way from Antalya with a a/c no smoking van. The guide was very good at explaining the sight. We had time to swim in the Roman bath which was great. Also, my doughter took a paddle in the calcium spring which she enjoyed very much. The site was much larger than expected, so wear comfortable shoes and ofcourse sunglasses. I highly recommend a visit to Pamukkale.

Pamukkale and Hierapolis Pamukkale and Hierapolis are two interconnected attractions located in close proximity to each other in southwestern Turkey.

Here's some information about Pamukkale and Hierapolis:

Pamukkale: Pamukkale, which means "Cotton Castle" in Turkish, refers to the natural site of white travertine terraces formed by the mineral-rich thermal waters that flow down the slope. These terraces, with their cascading pools of turquoise-colored water, create a stunning and otherworldly landscape. The travertine terraces are a result of thousands of years of mineral deposits from the hot springs in the area. Visitors can walk barefoot on the terraces and even take a dip in the thermal waters in designated areas. Hierapolis: Hierapolis is an ancient Greco-Roman city that once thrived near Pamukkale. It was founded in the 2nd century BC and was an important cultural and commercial center in the region. Today, the ruins of Hierapolis are a UNESCO World Heritage site and offer a fascinating glimpse into the past. Some notable attractions within Hierapolis include the well-preserved theater, the grand necropolis (ancient cemetery), the Roman baths, the Temple of Apollo, and the agora (ancient marketplace). Historical Significance: Both Pamukkale and Hierapolis have a rich historical significance. The thermal waters of Pamukkale were known for their healing properties and were used for centuries as a spa and wellness destination. Hierapolis, on the other hand, flourished as a thriving city during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Over the centuries, it experienced various influences and architectural developments, leaving behind a diverse range of ancient structures. Visitor Experience: Visitors to Pamukkale and Hierapolis can explore the terraces and ancient ruins, learning about the history, architecture, and cultural significance of the sites. It's a unique opportunity to witness the stunning natural beauty of Pamukkale and immerse yourself in the ancient world of Hierapolis. UNESCO World Heritage Site: Pamukkale and Hierapolis collectively form a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognized for their outstanding natural and cultural value. This designation highlights their importance and contributes to their preservation and protection. When visiting Pamukkale and Hierapolis, it's advisable to wear appropriate footwear, as the travertine terraces can be slippery. Additionally, respecting the rules and guidelines for preserving the site, such as not climbing on the fragile terraces, is important to ensure their longevity for future generations to enjoy. Exploring Pamukkale and Hierapolis offers a unique combination of natural beauty and historical exploration, making it a memorable experience for visitors to Turkey.

Cleopatra's pool Pamukkale Cleopatra's Pool Pamukkale, also known as Cleopatra's Antique Pool, is a popular attraction located in the ancient city of Hierapolis, which is adjacent to Pamukkale in Turkey.

Here is some information about Cleopatra's Pool:

Historical Significance: Cleopatra's Pool is believed to have been built during the Roman period in the 2nd century BC. It is said to have been a gift from Mark Antony to Cleopatra, hence the name. The pool is adorned with ancient columns and remnants of the surrounding structures. Thermal Spring: The pool is fed by natural thermal springs, which are rich in minerals and believed to have healing properties. The water in Cleopatra's Pool is warm and inviting, with a constant temperature of around 36 degrees Celsius (97 degrees Fahrenheit). Underwater Ruins: One of the unique features of Cleopatra's Pool is the presence of ancient ruins submerged in the water. These ruins include marble columns, fallen stones, and parts of the ancient city's infrastructure. Swimming in the pool allows visitors to observe and touch these historical remnants. Swimming Experience: Visitors have the opportunity to swim in Cleopatra's Pool and enjoy its warm and mineral-rich waters. The pool has a depth ranging from shallow to deep areas, accommodating both non-swimmers and experienced swimmers. The water is believed to be beneficial for the skin and has a rejuvenating effect. Entrance Fee: Please note that there is an entrance fee to access Cleopatra's Pool. The fee may vary depending on the season and is separate from the entrance fee to visit the main Pamukkale terraces and Hierapolis Ancient City. Optional Activity: Visiting Cleopatra's Pool is an optional activity during a trip to Pamukkale and Hierapolis. Not all tour packages or day tours may include a visit to Cleopatra's Pool, so it's important to check with the tour operator or guide beforehand to confirm if it is part of the itinerary. Swimming in Cleopatra's Pool can be a unique and enjoyable experience, combining history, relaxation, and the natural beauty of the area. However, it's worth noting that due to the historical significance and delicate nature of the ruins, certain rules and regulations may be in place to ensure the preservation of the site.
